Creative people!!! craft ideas for paper mache letters?

My DD is having a birthday party and we are going to decorate those paper mache letters you find at craft stores. Actually it looks more like paperboard to me but they call it paper mache... Anyway, I'm curious for some ideas on how 6 year old girls can decorate these things in a cute but age appropriate level.
